Top Brand Survey 2012 was conducted in 8 cities: Bandung, Jakarta, Makassar, Medan, Semarang, Surabaya, Balikpapan, and Pekanbaru. The random samples in each city are 400 persons. Boosters are added for each product category considered as premium in order to increase the incidence rate. The total number of random respondents surveyed is 3250, and the total number of booster respondents is 850.

The criteria of the respondents are male or female between 15 and 65 years old with SES ranging from E (average monthly expenditure of more than Rp. 750,000) to A (average monthly expenditure of more than Rp. 3.5 million).

The sampling method used is mutistage random sampling (for random samples), and purposive sampling (for booster samples). The survey is done face-to-face personal interview.
